Allison Brewer (Class of 2018) recently joined us virtually from Houston, Texas, to speak with Biology students in classes taught by Mrs. Cope, Ms. Harmon, and Mr. Henard. Allison shared valuable insights into her profession as a genetic counselor, discussing the academic path required for the field and what her day-to-day work entails.

District Announcement: Partnering for Student Safety: Teen Social Media & Internet Safety Lessons
In the coming weeks, Hawkins County Schools will begin implementing Social Media and Internet Safety Instruction for students in grades 6–12.
As required by Tennessee state law (Tenn. Code Ann. § 49-6-4603), this instruction is designed to equip our students with essential digital citizenship skills, online safety strategies, and awareness surrounding digital mental well-being.
When Will Instruction Take Place?
Lessons will be taught during November and December. Depending on instructional schedules, some lessons may extend into the 2nd semester to ensure students receive comprehensive coverage without disrupting core learning time.
Partnering with Families
We believe that protecting our students online is a shared responsibility between home and school. We encourage families to review lesson topics on our website, ask questions, and continue conversations about responsible digital habits at home:
Parent Opt-Out Information
While Tennessee law requires districts to offer this instruction, parents and guardians have the option to excuse their child from all or part of the curriculum: To opt out, parents/guardians must complete the official district opt-out form and return it directly to their student's teacher or school principal by October 30, 2026.
Students who are excused will receive alternative learning activities and will not be penalized for grading purposes.

BIG GAME FOOD DRIVE: Help Us Stock the Shelves Before Winter!
This Friday, October 23, Hawkins County is coming together at Volunteer High School for the Big Game—and we need the whole community’s help to tackle hunger! The Hawkins County Family Resource Center is hosting a district-wide Food Drive to keep our local families warm, nourished, and supported during the upcoming winter months. We are asking EVERYONE attending the game to bring at least one non-perishable item to donate!
Special Focus Items:
Cereal (box or bag)
Noodles & Pasta (all varieties)
Look for the Family Resource Center donation tables near the entrance gates when you arrive! Every single box of cereal and bag of noodles helps stock our pantry for students and families in need across Hawkins County.

We are so grateful for the opportunity to have TSA, SkillsUSA, and FCCLA represented at the COLT Leadership Conference in Antioch this week!
Our student association leaders are spending a few days this week developing leadership skills, building confidence, learning how to strengthen their organizations, and gaining valuable ideas to bring back to their schools and chapters.
We are proud of these students for stepping up, representing their programs, and investing in their leadership journey! We can’t wait to see how they take what they’ve learned and use it to make a difference back home.

Several of our Cherokee High School Fire Science students participated in a 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb, honoring the lives lost on September 11, 2001.
They climbed 110 stories, representing the floors of the World Trade Center towers and the journey firefighters made as they climbed upward to rescue those trapped inside.
Each student was given the name and photograph of a fallen firefighter to carry with them, walking every step in that firefighter’s honor.
For our future firefighters, this was more than a climb. It was a reminder of the courage, sacrifice, and selflessness of those who answered the call that day.

Students & Parents - today will be the last day to purchase 2026-2027 parking passes for students who are already driving to school. The original deadline to purchase a parking pass has been extended for students twice thus far. Students who get their license and a car throughout the school year, can purchase passes when needed. Students need to show drivers license, registration, and proof of insurance at time of purchase. Passes are $10

The 2026-2027 Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) class is preparing to attend clinical as part of a Work Based Learning opportunity. Grace Maguire, Annika Sexton, and Maggie Jones have been working diligently to prepare for their journey in healthcare at Ballad Health. These students will begin clinical in September to gain experience in preparation for their certification exam in May 2027.

TCAT Morristown and Hawkins County Schools are partnering to create a stronger pathway for students interested in healthcare careers. The partnership connects what students learn in high school with college-level training and ultimately with healthcare jobs available in our region.
Through the initiative, Hawkins County students will have access to advanced healthcare training equipment at Cherokee and Volunteer High Schools, hands-on career exploration and work-based learning experiences, and potential dual enrollment opportunities in Pre-Practical Nursing. The partnership also establishes a new TCAT Morristown Practical Nursing program in Hawkins County, giving students a local option to continue their training and become Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs).
The Anatomage table is an example of the advanced training equipment now available at Cherokee High School. The health science CTE department has been able to utilize the newly acquired Anatomage Table to help the CCMA students learn about Anatomy and Physiology as well as learn how to perform Intramuscular Injections.
