What is a Credit Exam?
A credit exam is a test created by Hawkins County Schools that assesses a student’s knowledge of an eligible course they are not currently enrolled in, but that is offered at their high school. By achieving a qualifying score on a credit exam, students can earn up to four (4) graduation credits.
Eligible Courses:
The following courses are eligible for credit exams:
English Language Arts: English IV
Math: Pre-Calculus
Science: Anatomy & Physiology, Ecology
Social Studies: World History and Geography, Economics
Other Courses: Personal Finance, Spanish I
Why are Credit Exams Important?
Credit exams provide students with a pathway to:
Accelerate graduation: Earn credits faster and potentially graduate early.
Demonstrate mastery: Show proficiency in subjects they have already learned outside of the classroom.
Increase flexibility: Customize their academic path and pursue specific interests.
Credit Towards Graduation:
Please note that high school credits earned through these credit exams will count toward your student’s high school graduation requirements. Students are only eligible to take an exam for a class in which they are currently enrolled.
How to Learn More:
If you are interested in learning more about the credit exam process and how your student can participate, please contact your student’s school counselor. They can be reached by calling the school at 423-272-6507 or via email. We encourage you to discuss this opportunity with your student and explore whether credit exams are a good fit for their academic plan.
